1. What must I never do?

Do not spill any fuel when filling the fuel box. If this does happen, remove the fuel meticulously. The fireplace should not be lit until the spilled fuel has completely dried. Never top up the fuel box of a burning bio fireplace. If the fuel box has to be topped up, make sure that the flames are properly extinguished and the box has cooled.

2. Will a room be heated by bio fireplace?

When bio alcohol fireplaces are burning, there is about 3.5 kWh of ´heat value´ produced in the room. Our fireplaces are not designed purely for heating purposes but mainly as decorative products, nevertheless, when you use the fireplace, you will enjoy a delightful and pleasant warmth. At the same time, the fire will function as a slight humidifier because water is released when fuels that contain alcohol are combusted. This CO2 ´emission´ is neutral because the CO2 released is the same that was absorbed by plants.

3. Are there any legal regulations I have to follow?

In principle there are no legal or other regulations from the fire brigade or elsewhere for mobile decorative fireplaces that run on alcohol. The fireplaces qualify under the burning candles category in legal fire regulations.

4. How does a bio fireplace function?

Our bio fireplaces burn instantly. You fill the fuel box with bio alcohol up to about 3mm under the edge of our stainless steel container. Use the funnel provided or possibly a measuring jug to pour the fuel. Be very careful not to spill any fuel. Then light the fireplace with the lighter provided (selected models only) or with any other long end lighter or matches. For the first 5 to 10 minutes the typical blue alcohol flame will appear which will change into a beautiful yellow-red colour when the desired combustion temperature is reached. The flame can be compared to a flame that comes from a wood fire. You can extinguish the fireplace at any time by simply using our extinguishing tool over the slit of the fuel box cutting the oxygen supply and putting the flame out.

5. What does a bio fireplace cost to run?

An hour of fire in our fireplaces costs less than £1 in fuel, depending on the size of the flames and the amount of fuel purchased (the more stock you buy the cheaper it gets). A full bio container will burn for about 3 to 5 hours (depending on the model).

6. What is the emission?

Composed almost completely of water vapour and CO2 (carbon dioxide), the amount of CO2 emission is comparable to that of two medium-sized candles. The other components emitted are negligible in quantity well under any limits. The other hazardous substances of combustion such as monoxide, stockoxide and aldehyde are not released until a combustion temperature of 700°C; the temperature of the bio fireplaces is under 400°C.

7. How does a bio fireplace work without a flue?

The bio fireplaces run on bio alcohol; an alcohol specially designed for our fireplaces that has been repeatedly cleaned and filtered, consisting of various raw materials such as potatoes, maize and molasses. The combustion of this biological alcohol in the stainless steel fuel container is so clean that it requires no extraction.

8. What exactly is bio fuel?

Bio fuel is made up of pure ethyl alcohol that is denatured. This alcohol is unusable for consumption (do not try to drink it). Natural substances are added to the alcohol so that the flames have a natural, warm, yellow-red colour.
